"When Remi Sonaiya emerged as the presidential candidate for the Kowa party in Nigeria’s March 28th 2015 presidential elections, it signified as the Dean of Engineering, Prof. Tunde Ogunnaike put it in his introductory welcome remarks on Monday, ‘a promise of rain’."

Dr. Sonaiya is a woman, a renowned academic and a formidable politician in her own right. But in my country, Nigeria, most culture dictates that women are to be seen and not heard.

Women in Nigeria have been on the receiving end of most of the injustices Nigerians have faced collectively. Women, still, are the ones least represented in all facets of major life: politics, economy, education and healthcare.
