Donative Intents and Birthdays

Project ASHA was privileged to host a collective of firebrand philanthropists on Saturday April 9th – Ms. Tobi Oluwaleye, Mr. T and Mr. K Ayanyele, and, Mrs. Rose Adesola.

It is not often that thought is given to societies’ disadvantaged, marginalised and vulnerable. It is equally not often that the thoughts about societal imperfection springs from youths. Often in field work, it is the retired, the aged or the concerned that give their all.

So it was Saturday last.

It was the concerned. Four concerned philanthropic friends.

The four philanthropists had initiated an approach through Tobi. Tobi and Project ASHA’s Global Director of Programmes had had a chance meet at the Yali Network’s #Africa4Her event hosted by the US Consulate. A firm friendship and pledges to future collaborations had been struck.

The opportunity for a first collaboration birthed some days to Ms. Tobi’s birthday. Not for her the loud noise and wasted food of a party; she sought a harvest of donations for the vulnerable and marginalised of the society.

Flyer up, mailings done and social media broadcasts full on, she and the others got items of clothing for over 200 women, girls and boys with about a dozen footwear. Iro and Buba; Gele; Gowns; Skirts; Trousers; Polos; T-Shirts and several other items – new, tokunbo and Nigerian-used- were given out.

A choice of communities was in play: Gberefu in Badagry, Ile-Epo, Ajegunle in Ikorodu and Sogunro in Yaba. Ikorodu won at the end of the day.

It was a win for all of humanity, however, as those reached in Ikorodu were more than grateful to the firebrand philanthropists.
