Threads of Change: Weaving Women's Right Through Culture, a one-day cultural gathering that brings women’s stories to the forefront of the creative economy through art, fashion, and performance. This event is part of the Poetry, Art and Dance (PAD) initiative, our long-term project to empower women and girls in rural communities.
Supported by the British Council Nigeria Creative Showcase Program, Threads of Change highlights how creativity can challenge oppressive norms while celebrating women as protectors of heritage and leaders of transformation, and as a leading contributor to the creative economy.
What to Expect
Panel Conversation for Professionals – exploring how women and men can work together to advance culture, inclusion, and innovation in the creative economy
Fashion Showcase – telling stories of resilience, empowerment, culture, and sustainability through design and performance
Poetry and Storytelling – voices across generations sharing narratives of strength and creativity
Keynote Speech – delivered by Professor Roberta Comunian, Professor of Creative Economies at King’s College London. Her research focuses on cultural policy, creative work, and creative higher education. She has published widely on the role of creative and cultural industries in local development. For Threads of Change, she will speak on “The Role of Intermediaries in Supporting Local Creatives and Advancing Women’s Rights in Nigeria’s Creative Economy.”
Why It Matters
Women have always been at the heart of culture, yet they remain underrepresented in the creative economy. Threads of Change is both a celebration and a call to action. It recognizes the importance of men as allies in advancing gender justice and builds on ProjectASHA’s commitment to create safe spaces where women can thrive, tell their stories, and inspire change in their communities.
Threads of Change is one step in our broader vision to establish creative hubs for rural women, ensuring that culture becomes not only a source of identity but also a tool for sustainable livelihoods.
