Obstetric Fistula Prevention Campaign

The Obstetric Fistula Prevention Campaign is an ASHA initiative dedicated to raising awareness, preventing obstetric fistula, and supporting women and girls affected by this devastating childbirth injury.

Obstetric fistula is a serious medical condition that occurs during prolonged or obstructed labor without timely medical care. It often results in chronic incontinence and severe physical, emotional, and social consequences for affected women and girls.

Many women suffering from obstetric fistula face stigma, isolation, and loss of livelihood. Through this campaign, ASHA works to educate communities, promote maternal health services, and advocate for better healthcare access for women

Why This Campaign Matters

Thousands of women and girls in developing countries continue to suffer from obstetric fistula due to:

  • Lack of access to skilled birth attendants

  • Early or forced marriages

  • Limited maternal healthcare services

  • Poverty and inadequate medical infrastructure

Most cases are preventable with proper medical care during pregnancy and childbirth.

Our Key Focus Areas

ASHA conducts outreach programs in communities to educate families, traditional birth attendants, and community leaders about:

  • Safe pregnancy and childbirth practices

  • The dangers of prolonged or obstructed labor

  • The importance of skilled medical care during delivery

Maternal Health Advocacy

We advocate for:

  • Improved access to maternal healthcare services

  • Increased awareness of women’s reproductive health rights

  • Stronger government and community support for maternal health programs
