Project Update: EWOF Calabar


Project ASHA visited the Government Secondary School in Uwanse Calabar on the 21st October were it's flagship project - Empowering Women of the Future (EWOF) is currently running.

The purpose was to sensitize the group of 62 EWOF members on sexual abuse and peer pressure.

Led by ASHA's project officer and EWOF coordinator in Calabar, Ms. Blessing Ashi, topics discussed from the EWOF manual were:

  • What is sexual abuse?

  • Types of sexual abuse

  • Signs to look out for in sexual abuse

  • Finding help before abuse or after sexual abuse.

Also explored were the role peer pressure play in sexual abuse.

EWOF is committed to promoting and advocating the rights of vulnerable women and girls through education (formal/informal), mentorship and economic empowerment. Initiated in 2012, EWOF currently runs in Lagos and Calabar and won the LEAP Africa social innovators awards in 2013.
