Awaited Shortlist for the Vweta 2023 Poetry Prize Announced


ProjectASHA has announced the shortlist for the 2023 Vweta Chadwick Poetry Prize, and it is, without doubt, the most exciting one yet.

Compared to last year, the 2023 prize attracted entries from 110 young women, and powerful talents from the poetry scene. The shortlisted poets and poem titles are;

Senior Category Shortlist

  1. Zaynab Bobi - Mist

  2. Obasiota Ibe - Ennui

  3. Ibukun Oluwakeyamo – Unveiling Mockery

  4. Okoronkwo Chisom – New Anthem for the Woman

  5. Anita Michael – Death of Silence

  6. Susan Olalere – Hollow Cavity

  7. Anita Nwokoji – The Dark Void

  8. Favour Orlando – Who can serve them their dreams on a platter

  9. Pelemo Nyajo -Children of Abyss

  10. Olu Adedoyin – Speaking Through The Void

  11. Roseline Mgbodichinma – To Rewrite a Life

  12. Oathman Amina – Inside My Pain

  13. Favour Davies – Her Essence

Junior Category Shortlist

  1. Francis Zenom – The Voices

  2. Husna Aleeyu – They Say

The unveiling of the list has generated positive buzz across social media, with many excited about the review judge’s selection, demonstrating skillfulness despite the rigorous selection process.

The thirteen senior and two junior finalists were selected from an earlier longlist of 150 entries and are 99% first-time participants. The winners of the prize, which will be announced after the grand event, will receive cash awards in the total of N500,000 and a certificate of participation. Previous winners of the prize include; Juliet Nnaji, Favour Idaka Imoke, Obasiota Maryhilda Ibe and Jemmy Benson for Junior Category.
